Saudi Arabian Student Fatally Stabbed in Cambridge, UK

A Saudi Arabian student, Mohammed Yousef Alqassem, aged 20, has tragically died after being stabbed in what authorities describe as an “unprovoked attack” in Cambridge, United Kingdom. The incident occurred late Friday night in Mill Park, a street near Cambridge railway station, where police and paramedics responded to reports of violence. Despite prompt emergency efforts, Alqassem was pronounced dead at the scene shortly after midnight.

Alqassem was in Cambridge on a 10-week placement, enrolled at the EF International Language Campuses, studying English. The school expressed its deep sorrow and is providing support and counseling to students and staff affected by the news.

Police have charged 21-year-old Chas Corrigan, a resident of Cambridge, with murder and possession of a knife in a public place. Corrigan has appeared at Peterborough Magistrates’ Court and is due to appear before Cambridge Crown Court for further hearings. Additionally, a 50-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender and remains in custody.

The Saudi Embassy in London is closely coordinating with British authorities to investigate the circumstances surrounding Alqassem’s death and to facilitate the return of his body to Saudi Arabia. The family of the victim, now in the UK to oversee repatriation, has paid tribute to Mohammed, describing him as a kind-hearted, enthusiastic young man, deeply loved by family and friends. They have called for greater attention to public safety and expressed concerns about the rising violent crime impacting students and tourists in the UK.

Floral tributes and heartfelt messages have been placed at the scene by members of the community. A post-mortem examination is scheduled, and investigations into the attack continue with the involvement of Cambridgeshire Police and local authorities
