Israel attacks airplane in Yemen carrying Hajj Pilgrims to Makkah

Operations Reported Near Sanaa Airport

Sanaa, Yemen: Recent activities have been reported in the vicinity of Sanaa International Airport. According to various reports on Wednesday, May 28, 2025, several impacts were observed on the airport's runway and a civil aircraft.

Airport management has indicated that the activities affected the operational status of the facility. An aircraft affiliated with a regional carrier was reportedly impacted. This aircraft had previously been involved in transport services, including for pilgrimage travel. This aircraft was scheduled to carry the pilgrims for annual Hajj to Makkah, Saudi Arabia. It was the 'Last Civilian Plane that was working on full capacity for air travel'.

Officials in the region have issued statements regarding the events, with representatives on one side indicating that actions were taken in response to certain long-distance aerial launches observed the previous day. Separately, representatives from another side stated that these events would not alter their broader perspectives.

Sanaa Airport, a significant transportation hub in Yemen, had recently resumed limited services following earlier repair and restoration work. It has served various functions, including for humanitarian and civil aircraft.

Prior to these recent events, reports indicated ongoing aerial activity in the region, with some organizations noting maritime incidents in the Red Sea. Earlier in May, a period of reduced aerial activity in the area was observed following discussions involving a major global entity.
