Damascus, Syria: For the second time in as many days, Israel has reportedly struck a target in the vicinity of the Syrian presidential palace in Damascus. The incident occurred early on Friday, May 2, 2025, following a previous Israeli strike in Syria just a day prior.

While details regarding the specific target and the extent of the damage remain limited, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu issued a statement confirming the strike. He reiterated Israel's commitment to protecting the Druze minority in Syria, particularly in light of recent clashes involving the Druze community and other factions in the country.

Netanyahu stated that the strike near the presidential palace served as a "clear message to the Syrian regime," emphasizing that Israel would not tolerate the deployment of hostile forces south of Damascus or any threat to the Druze population.

The Israeli military also confirmed the strike, stating that its fighter jets had targeted an area adjacent to the residence of Syria's interim President, Ahmed Hussein al-Sharaa, in Damascus. However, the military did not specify the exact nature of the target. There has been no immediate comment from Syrian authorities regarding the incident.

These repeated Israeli strikes come amidst a backdrop of escalating tensions and sectarian violence in Syria, particularly involving the Druze minority. Israel has voiced concerns over the safety and well-being of the Druze population and has indicated its willingness to intervene to protect them.

Israeli Strikes Kill Dozens in Gaza Amid Crippling Aid Blockade, Raising Starvation Fears

Gaza Strip: A devastating series of Israeli strikes across the Gaza Strip on Thursday and early Friday, May 2, 2025, have resulted in the deaths of at least 31 Palestinians, according to medical sources cited by Al Jazeera. This bloodshed comes as the territory endures a crippling aid blockade imposed by Israel, now in its second month, leading to dire warnings of starvation, particularly among children.  

Throughout Thursday, Israeli forces relentlessly bombarded the Gaza Strip, with fatalities reported in multiple locations. These attacks continued into the early hours of Friday, adding to the already mounting death toll. The ongoing violence and the severe restrictions on the entry of essential supplies have created a catastrophic humanitarian crisis within the besieged enclave.   

Al Jazeera's correspondent in Gaza described Israel's 60-day blockade as the "deliberate strangulation" of the civilian population. The blockade has severely limited the access of crucial food, medical supplies, and other aid to the over two million residents of Gaza.

Meanwhile, in a separate incident, a Gaza Freedom Flotilla ship carrying 30 pro-Palestinian activists issued an SOS, reporting that it was hit by a drone off the coast of Malta and was sinking.
