The group of SIAN in Norway held a Quran burning protest recorded by TRT WORLD media, Where the audience or Protestors said: This Quran burning event in Norway was supervised by the local Police. The members of the local anti-Muslim organization and far-right group Stop the Islamisation OF NORWAY (SIAN). Threw copies of Islamic holy book in the trash while another one burned it. The demonstration took place in the largely Muslim-populated city Kristiansand. It triggered counter-protests against hatemongering and an angry backlash on social media.
In June, SIAN members held a similar event in Drammen and in August a gunman opened fire at the Al-Noor Islamic center in the outskirts of Oslo leaving one person injured. A survey about attitudes towards immigrants in Norway found that 47 percent were skeptical towards Muslims compared to 21 percent towards Christians.
The "Eurabia" conspiracy theory, which claims Europe has been 'handed over Islam' for oil is widely circulated on far-right websites in Norway. It was also something referenced in the manifesto of Anders Breivik a terrorist who killed 77 people in 2011.
Last year, think-tank Minotenk expressed the need for an action plan against hostile attitudes towards Muslims in Norway.
