Saudi Miss Universe Contestant Seen Holding Islamic Flag in her hands.

In a groundbreaking development, Saudi Arabia is poised to make its debut at the Miss Universe 2024 pageant, with 27-year-old Rumy Alqahtani representing the nation. This marks a significant departure for a country long regarded as conservative.

Hailing from Riyadh, Alqahtani, a content creator, shared her excitement on Instagram, underscoring the historic nature of Saudi Arabia's participation in the prestigious beauty pageant. Following in the footsteps of Lujane Yacoub, who represented Bahrain in the previous year's competition, Alqahtani's selection signifies a growing presence of contestants from the Gulf region.

Scheduled to take place in Mexico on September 18, the upcoming Miss Universe event will also witness Iran's inaugural participation. Alqahtani, holding a Bachelor's degree in dentistry and proficient in English, French, and Arabic, boasts an impressive array of titles, including Miss Saudi Arabia, Miss Middle East (Saudi Arabia), Miss Arab World Peace 2021, and Miss Woman (Saudi Arabia). Her extensive experience includes participation in global pageants, with her most recent appearance at Miss and Mrs Global Asian in Malaysia in February.

The Miss Universe 2023 pageant saw notable diversity, with the inclusion of two transgender contestants and the first plus-size contestant to reach the semi-finals. Sheynnis Palacios of Nicaragua made history by clinching the Miss Universe 2023 title, marking Nicaragua's inaugural triumph in the esteemed competition.
