A recent article published by CNN News says fasting 2 days a week can help obese people to maintain their weight as fasting twice a week can burn as many as 600-700 calories. The study involved 300 people both men and women in Tower Hamlets, London associated with an obese disorder. The study uses two approaches a 5:2 diet and another is standard diet, both approaches gave modest results. People who followed the 5:2 diet lost around 4 pounds in six months.
This article creates a sense of happiness among Muslims and an urge amongst them is to revive to fast on Mondays and Thursdays, as their Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) used to fast twice a week during his lifetime. It is a Sunnah practice in Islam to fast on Monday and Thursday because Islamic Prophet used to fast on these two days. Now as the study confirms the benefit of fasting twice a week more and more Muslims are looking forward to making this Sunnah of their Prophet a part of their life. So that they can spend their life with health and also get rewards from Allah for fasting and also the rewards will be doubled as it is also the Sunnah of Islamic Holy Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him).
